The human brain can only process up
to three things at a time. When I give my ted talk to the class I want my audience
to think about these three things. First, I want them to think about trying
something they have never done before. We as humans don’t like to try new things
because we may not like it. Eating healthy is something that can be a challenge
for people because a lot of it is mental.
My goal is to get anyone who is active to try to eat healthy and change
their diet. The second thing I want them to think about is having self-control.
If you’re trying to eat healthy for a week or more you have to have self-control.
Having self-control is eating healthy at all times and saying no to the
unhealthy food that is everywhere. My partner
and I have been doing this for months and we are happy that we have gained self-control.
The last thing I want them to think about is balancing supplements in their
diet. My partner and I have been balancing supplements in our diet the past
months. This is hard to do because you have to learn how to watch your diet
closely. A lot of athletes or people
that are active don’t know how to do this and it makes them unable to live up
to their full potential. These are the three things I want my audience to think
about when we are doing our ted talk.

They Say I say
In the article the author talks about the importance of nutrition among adults who exercise and are elite athletes who do sports. In the first paragraph that starts the article it talks about how a sports diet is a diet that supplies nutrients and fluids that keeps the body running smoothly. It then talks about how a “sports nutrition diet may vary day to day, depending on specific energy demands.” The article then goes on to discuss the main things your body needs as an athlete. These things are carbs proteins and fats. Carbs are used to give energy to the body. Protein is used to help build and repair muscle. It also talked about how different fats keep a stockpile of nutrients. This article also talked about things that other articles didn’t talk about like what to do if you are training in different climates. For example it said if your training in a warm environment drink plenty of water because you can pass out because of heat.
I think the article has very good points and it has taught me a lot of stuff that I didn't know about nutrition. The article to me was right on stuff but was also questionable on stuff. The article talks about how sports diet supplies more nutrients for your body to run smoothly. Other articles have said that this type of diet will do this if you follow it. The article then talks about how your diet can vary daily based on nutrition demands. Based on other articles I have read this is not true. Your diet should be pretty consistent unless you are doing some type of competition. This article also talks about how to train in an environment that is different. For example in a hot environment your suppose to be careful and drink lots of water. Also you want lots of energy in that type of environment. Other articles have not talked about this at all they just said you need to drink a good amount of water and that you need to make sure your urine is clear to light yellow.
I think this article had some really good points in it. I think the stuff they talked about was pretty accurate to what I believe in. I agree that dieting is good because it helps you store nutrients and fluids. I also believe that your diet can vary only if you have a competition. Based on my own experience I eat a healthy protein diet everyday. I try to get enough fluids and carbs in especially because I’m a lifter. I think environment also plays a big role in your diet. When I run in the summer I make sure i have plenty of water and lots of potassium in my system. I think this article was overall a good article because it taught me stuff that I didn’t know. I hope by doing more research and doing more comparisons will help my 20 time project go well.

Blog Post 4-17-17
My 20 time project is on Nutrition and Athletic Performance. For this project, I was asked to find a mentor. The mentor I chose is Tyler Kadolph. Talking to Tyler Kadolph really helped me get a better understanding of the impact of proper nutrition and it’s effect on athletic performance. As a runner, having this knowledge will help me become a better athlete. Tyler is a sales representative at GNC and has worked here for over a year. In a short amount of time, he has become knowledgable and is willing to share his expertise with customers. As an athlete with a strong desire to be faster and better, I believe he was the perfect person to interview. Tyler is easy to talk to; is a non-competing bodybuilder, and passionate about health and fitness. He provided me insight on the best protein drinks to build muscle. In addition we discussed topics that I was already aware of but it was always time well spent. He always enhanced my knowledge by adding extra information or facts to things I thought I already knew. One of the most important discussions we had was on “fat”. Tyler explained that the body needs fat but It has to come from foods that are made of good quality fats. I was shocked to learn that you really don’t need supplements. Supplements are just substitutes for food. When you eat healthy, real food that is not processed, the body gets the nutrients it needs to function properly. This experience changed the way I present information to the class because I learned new, exciting information that benefits everyone. As the result of this project, I gained a mentor, a friend, valuable information and a new commitment to my personal health and fitness. I think about and apply the information I gained from Tyler to my training plan. I have a deeper understanding of supplements, proper lifting to build muscles and the pros and cons of dieting. The next step for this project is to encourage others to develop and apply healthy eating and fitness based on the new information I learned. The key take-away is to start with baby steps because small changes can have huge rewards.
